In our society, power and money and influence seem to be held up as goals; and, if you don't achieve them or at least strive to achieve them, you aren't living a good life. Please. Get a grip, WSJ. Power and money and influence are straw men. A good, virtuous life is one in which virtue is the highest goal. If fate delivers these spurious things, great. But, we must always be cognizant that they can be taken away in an instant. Just as those we love can be taken away in an instant. Just as we ourselves can be gone in an instant. Why am I a solo? Because it is much easier to concentrate on the things that really matter, and on the only thing I can control. Myself and my reaction to the world. If you choose to be in the maelstrom, recognize that you aren't in control and follow your own light.
