How to create an image backup in Windows 10 and restore it, if need be | PCWorld. Okay, you have taken my advice, and purchased an external USB drive with 1 to 4 Terabytes of storage. What now? This tutorial will show you how to make a mirror image of the entire drive, which can be used to restore a functioning drive in the event of a catastrophe. I do this weekly; but, that may be overkill. Once you get the hang of it, you can start the backup and go about your business for a half hour or less, and have an exact image of the drive to use for restoration later. The weekend is here. Just do it.
