How to Make and Receive Skype Calls Using an Amazon Echo. Okay, this is a cool new skill for Amazon Echo devices. The Echo Show has a video screen which can show movies, music, and videos. You could also call another Echo Show, and have a video call. Now, you can make video calls to anyone using Skype. This skill comes at a time when video calling is finally gaining traction. If you Skype, you can call the FutureLawyer's home office or regular office, and the Echo can do it by voice. Skype me. Who knows? I might take your call.

70 Percent Of New Partners Are Dissatisfied With Their Job | Above the Law. This one surprised me. I thought that making partner in BigLaw meant big bucks. While I measure happiness by other means, big money certainly would be nice. But, apparently, when you make partner in BigLaw,you have to contribute a big chunk to the capital of the firm. Say what? Oh well, some of these new partners compared themselves to Senior Associates. Plus, you still get all of the disadvantages of a group practice. I may not make a lot of money; but, I still get enough to eat and have enough left over for some cool tech gadgets. Jeez.

Ban the Beef? Now I Want To Eat A Great Big Steak

Ban the Beef? by Bj�rn Lomborg - Project Syndicate. I hate political correctness, and being told what I can eat and drink. I understand banning smoking in restaurants and public places; because there is science behind it. But, banning beef, and treating beef eaters like smokers is so abhorrent that I have to highlight it. When San Francisco banned sugar in soft drinks, I was apoplectic, even though I don't use refined sugar myself. This is about freedom to live and drink and eat what we like. Environmentalists who want to regulate what I eat had better be careful. They will spark a beef eating backlash. I think I will go out now and eat a big steak. Jeez.

Yesterday's holiday post about the WKRP Turkey Drop got me thinking about the most famous pre-Internet meme. In the Seventies, our memes came from Television; and, one of the best of all time was Les Nessman's invisible office walls and door. Upon reflection, Les was right. Respect isn't about physical boundaries. It's about what we carry around in our heads.

THANKSGIVING FEAST

He sat at the table
Grateful for another year;
But, the empty seats and quiet house
reminded him of Thanksgiving days gone by.

The turkey tasted the same
The TV blared the same football sounds
and the house,
though quiet,
was populated by tables and chairs
that had seen it all.

For a moment in time,
he was transported to a day
when the house was filled
with people
who now spent the day in other locations
spread out among the only ones
who remembered her.

He looked at old photographs
of smiling people
mouthing words of thanks
for another year
and another meal
and another prayer
for lonely fellow travelers
on this earthly marble.

Her photograph
surveyed the new proceedings
and,
he hoped,
blessed the new participants;
he wanted to reach inside the picture frame
and drag her back
from wherever God had taken her.

He only whispered a silent prayer
that his new tradition
would hold back the tears
and that the ghosts of turkeys from the past
wouldn’t sit at every holiday table
until he was just a photograph.
