Google Stamps Out Political Speech Among Staff With New Workplace Guidelines. Want to work for Google? Better read this article about Google's new restrictions on speech at work. Google employees must "avoid conversations that are disruptive to the workplace or otherwise violate Google's workplace policies." Are you kidding me? Who decides what is "disruptive" speech? God forbid I should say something that a coworker or supervisor doesn't like. Asked how the company will determine what is "disruptive" a spokesperson said that will be decided by the "community management team". What? Wait, though. The "community management team" will "usually" attempt to "educate" workers before "disciplining" them. OMG. But, wait, in case you are seeing Orwell's 1984 come to life at Google, it gets worse. The company is also creating a "central flagging tool" that will allow workers to inform on other workers. So, informers don't have to go to a supervisor to report "political" or "disruptive" speech. They can use Google computers to do it anonymously. Big Brother indeed.
