Why is it that we always want what we don't have? Why do we mourn lost loves, lost loved ones, and those who have left us? Why do we pine after what was never ours in the first place? It is not rational to expect that our loved ones will live forever, or even that they will outlive us. It is only rational to make the most of the time we have.

Smartphone Tech For The New Year

Smartphone tech we're looking forward to in 2020. After I die, please do not mourn my loss. Remember that I spent many very happy days playing with computers, and tech, and smartphones and gadgets. The coming year, should I be blessed to live it, will be filled with new wonders. I am loving my Note 10 Plus 5G, and can't wait to get a 5G signal in my area of Florida. I kept my Note 10 Plus as a backup, and love everything about this great phone. The infinity display is so cool that even Apple lover, Ernie the Attorney, oohed and aahed over it at dinner last week. I confess that I don't get why everyone is so exercised about the tiny hole for the camera at the top. Some phones have a notch, which I also don't mind. But, bet on some phone getting released by Samsung in the near future that will be nothing but screen, all the time. Such is the life of a gadget hunter. I am living the life.

You Already Are Using Two Factor Authentication - Don't Stop Now

Why you (and your family) should be using two-factor authentication and a password manager | Android Central. I hate to be the Grinch today; but, I must protect you from yourself. You got hacked? Guess why? You didn't lock the door. You are already using two factor authentication. Why stop now? Protect your data. Protect your friends. What, you say? I don't even know what it is. Well, you can't call yourself a reader of this blog if you don't know that I am always bringing it up. Question. Do you have a credit card? Do you find it annoying that merchants are always asking you for the little 3 or 4 digit code on it? Guess what? That is two factor authentication. They are asking for something only the person with the card in hand can know. That's you, unless your physical card is stolen; and, in that event, you should have cancelled the card. Your website use and computer use is the same thing. Use it on every site that allows it. Use it on Google. Use it on Facebook. Use it on every social media site. Take some time to set it up, and you won't be the person warning all their friends that you got hacked. Be safe out there.

Magic

"Daddy, I love you, let me splash you with my magic".
She said, frolicking in the pool,
Holding her rubber duckie,
which doubled as a pool thermometer.
In her eyes, it was a magic wand,
capable of great feats.

All things were possible.

How could I tell her
that life would disappoint her,
and that,
in between the ecstasy and the pain,
the mementos of a happy childhood
would dissolve into days of sadness and hurt?

Question Authority

If I had a bone to pick with my early education, it would be that the nuns and priests emphasized rote memory and slavish devotion to the words in the texts that the Diocese approved, rather than teaching independent thinking and understanding. It wasn't until the Jesuits got hold of me in College that I was able to break out of that mold. The free thinking Jesuits, combined with the late Sixties, allowed for independent thought and no judgment. It would have been great if Feynman had been professor at Loyola; but, I was in good stead with John Corrington, Miller Williams, and their merry band of literary minds. 

"Understanding is more important than memorization! Schools should teach the students how to understand, think, doubt, and question. They should be made open to imagination and creativity."

Marie Kondo Is Wrong

Execupundit.com: The Kondo Temptation. If I have taught you anything, grasshopper, it is that control in this world is not possible. Michael Wade has it right. Marie Kondo and her army of neat freaks seem to think that they will be happier if they organize their physical world into a minimalist version of an all white room in which nothing is out of place, lying on the floor, or hidden under a pile of paper. The human need for control is one of the biggest killers of time and happiness I can think of. We marry someone ten years younger in a vain attempt to control who dies first. Then, they die. We spend decades at a job we hate, because it is expected, and we fear what will happen if we leave. Then, we die. If fate is anything, it is unpredictable. So, Michael, I disagree with Marie Kondo; but, I also disagree with your compromise position, that balance is necessary or desirable. Life is messy. Don't clean it up. Go with the flow. You will be happier.

Tour Dates & Tickets | Jurassic World Live Tour. The Animax robot dinosaurs from Nashville are coming to Tampa's Amalie Arena, and we will be there. It is one thing to see these creatures on a movie screen, and quite another to have them walking in front of you. It is easy to imagine the terror early man felt when he came upon these giants.
