I am reviewing interior page samples for the book, and came across this one. I can't remember if I have published it before; but, here it is anyway. Anyone following the blog will be getting an advance view of the poems in the new book. I hope you like them. The book should be available by the time of the wedding in February. I will be giving a copy to each of the wedding guests. We only get a small quantity of todays, and the yesterdays keep piling up. Tomorrow doesn't exist, so make the most of what you have.
Yesterday And Today
Yesterday he was a flower
moving with the breeze
bending with the weather
and never touching the ground.
The sunlight made him grow
First a bud, then a bursting palette of color
Each day more of him
reached to the sky
He was fruitful and multiplied.
She came one day
to the field
and found him
in his glory
Smiling at the world
Bursting with the energy of youth.
She clipped him with a pair of scissors
Close to the ground
Now he was long stemmed
but unattached to the earth
Swaying in her basket
As she brought him home.
She placed him in a glass vase
poured some water in
And he drank of her beauty.
After a while
He realized that his petals were wilting
The water wasn’t enough
to keep him going
She took him from the vase
flattened him in a book
and laminated him
for her memories.
