The Stoics tell us to always expect that fate will do her worst. That way, we are better prepared for the inevitable. In 1966, Time Magazine predicted that, in 2020, nobody would work for a living, and we would all be wealthy. Well that is half right. Nobody is working, and we are all destitute. So much for seeing into the future.
