Making Use Of Remote Technology Permanent. A proposal has been made to the Florida Rules of Judicial Administration to make the discretionary use of remote technology in hearings and trials, including jury trials, permanent. The proposed Rule, however, would empower the Court to decide to conduct their entire motion calendar and trials remotely. Some lawyers object to making remote jury trials a decision by the Court. Of course, this is just a proposed change, and there will be much debate. Many lawyers and Judges have discovered that remote hearings are efficient, and save money on travel and time spent traveling and waiting for hearings. It remains to be seen whether the future will be conducted entirely remotely; but, it appears that Zoom hearings are here to stay.
