Seth Godin On Seeking The Minimum Audience. This piece by my blogging mentor, Kevin O'Keefe, discusses the reason and suggested focus of law blogging, applied to the Seth Godin presentation about blogging to the minimum audience in order to achieve a maximum audience. I think it depends on the purpose for blogging, or writing in general. Yes, Kevin creates a platform for many lawyers who blog about their specialty, or an area of law in which they practice, in order to get clients, and make a lot of money. But, some of us write because we can't not write. Sure, it is nice when our work is appreciated. But, the focus of a blog, in my opinion, should be to do what you love, and let the work speak without a concrete goal. So many of us play a role. We tend to say, or write, what we think others want to hear, or read. But, the only way to satisfy the itch, for me, is to be authentic. When you are true to yourself, that sincerity is sure, and loud, and understood. One of my pet peeves (yes, I know. I have many) is the tendency to think that if we signal virtue, we will be thought to be virtuous. Virtue signaling is a big problem, because it masks the true self. So, fellow humans. Blog if you must; but, always remember, you can't do it like you advertise online, or on a sign, or in the Yellow Pages (are they still a thing?) or on TV. Let yourself be you. Some will follow you. Some will be repelled by you. But, in the end, you are all you have anyway.
