We all want to believe that a magic card or wand can determine our future. We all want to believe that our fate can be changed with a turn of a card. Sometimes, however, it is better to realize that our fate is an unknown, and that the better course is to accept it, whatever it is, and change ourselves instead.

upon the table.
Did she hear his beating heart?
Could she sense his prayer
for a future of loving her?
Could she read the desire in his body?
Or was it all a game?
She read the cards to him.
She knew that he was bound to the past,
a past that carried only broken love
and incomplete promises.
He was a budding plant,
growing towards a powerful sun,
reaching for the sky,
a boy-man,
learning to love.
The cards told him that he had much work to do.
