Bureaucracy - Definition - Pros And Cons. I am speaking of law firm bureaucracy, of course. We all have to deal with governmental bureaucracy, and our lives can be strangled by it. In some cases, large organizations can avoid bureaucracy by having one person at the top making all the decisions. However, that style carries risk; especially if the strong leader leaves or perishes. My little bureaucracy of one needs no such organization. I am always reminded that, on the whole, solo lawyers don't make as much money as Big Law partners. That may be true; but, it is also true that money doesn't buy happiness. Trite, I know. But, true nonetheless. Big Law partners spend many more hours doing things they may not like to do than solos who make their own decisions. And, as a bonus, I don't have to attend meetings during which partners fight over money. To quote Emily Dickinson: "How dreary to be somebody. How public like a frog. To tell your name the livelong day, to an admiring bog."
