Easter Rising
The holiday came upon him,
and he wasn’t ready.
He remembered long Masses with a priest
Reading about a horrible crime
Committed 2000 years ago against a revolutionary
Who preached about love and nonviolence.
At least that is what he was told. He marveled at the stories
And the trial had pushed him to a life
Spent in and out of courtrooms
Looking for justice
And hoping to find his own love.
Do we all wish for the same things every Easter?
Do we remember the past as a blur of rabbits and candy.
Or, do we come to a new understanding if rebirth
And the undying aspects of the human soul?
No one really knows what comes next.
But, in the Spring anything is possible.
