The recent rush to online and remote work was not a revelation to me. In fact, I have been working remotely and online for many years. I first posted the following nine years ago, and I am pleased to report that online computing has saved the economy, given travel restrictions of the past year.
"I Used To Be A Road Warrior. Like Execupundit, I used to be a Road Warrior. (The photo isn't really of Mad Max. It is me after a hotel employee informed me that they had given my room to someone else). We all have stories of hotel screwups, flight anguish, and rude service personnel. They are even making TV shows out of the difficulties of travel now. However, in recent years, I have severely cut back on the travel; some because of the economy, and some because I do so much online now. The Internet really is making some travel a thing of the past. While I appreciate Execupundit's ability to be organized; I have not such a stellar past myself. I always knew where everything was before a presentation. After the seminar, however, in the rush to get my stuff for the next speaker, or while answering questions for earnest young lawyers who loved tech like I do, I rushed repacking. More than once, I have spent an hour in a parking lot of a hotel or airport, repacking all my stuff. Ugh. Now, all I have to pack is my notebook, tablet, and legal pads in my briefcase. My longest commute is the 5 mile drive from my home to my office and back. When you get old like me, you will appreciate the benefits of never going anywhere. Why bother, when the world is at your feet online?"
