Memorial Day is a day for honoring the men and women who have died while on duty with the US military and it is a day where Americans across the country pay their respects, often by visiting military cemeteries or memorials. It is not a day to honor those of us who served. It is not a day to party without remembering how we got here. I honor my father, Martin M. Georges, Sr., who died while serving in the Army Air Corps. When I look at his photo, and imagine what he was like when he was alive, I think about his death in his Twenties, before he really had a chance to live. I also remember the memorable scene in which the actor, Robin Williams, who speaks about seizing every day as an opportunity to live. Sometimes, I look at this photo, and wonder what he would say, were he here. Would he, like the photographs, whisper "Carpe Diem"? We all owe those who died on duty a debt. We also owe ourselves the opportunity to live every day joyfully. So, laugh today. Love today. Remember the dead soldiers today. But, above all, live today.
