Cancel Culture and Woke Shaming and Virtue Signalling has gone too far. When are thinking people going to stand up the small minded, complaining, holier than thou, arbiters of modern discourse? I'll start. There were, are, and always will be, the Washington Redskins. When will we tell Twitter and Facebook and Left Wing tyrants to go pound sand? It appears that it will take liberal minded comedians and pundits to say enough. Here is Bill Maher's take on the insanity that is destroying free speech:

 

It Looks Like A Watch, Acts Like A Watch, But It Is A Smartwatch.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4. In a few days, the evolution of the Smartwatch will be complete. No tiny little rectangle tied to a locked down OS. No more bulky, thick, case with a passing resemblance to a classic high end wristwatch. The Galaxy Watch 4 (I will be getting the Classic version) is a premium regular watch look alike that is a like a computer on the wrist. It will be faster, sleeker, and have more functions than some notebook computers. It will have bio-metric sensors that rival a well equipped medical lab, and, alas, will, among other things, measure the body fat index. I hate that index. In the near future, it will likely measure blood sugar, and the watches already measure heartrate, do a competent ECG, measure blood pressure, and other things. All this in addition to regular text, email, web browsing, telephone calls, and much more. Want to know the population of Katmandu? Just ask. This all comes in a package that costs under $500, and, if you want the phone features, another $10 to $15 a month. I predicted that these wrist computers would go mainstream in the future. The future is now. In a final nod to uniformity, Samsung has merged Tizen and Wear OS into the OneUI Watch OS, which combines the best features of both. The countdown begins.

I have always enjoyed my parrots dancing to the beat of music, and, when Simone Marstiller (@SMarstiller) started her Twitter meme on Friday Dancing, I went looking for other dancing parrots. I discovered that science has determined that only humans and parrots have dancing ability. So, don't just dance on Friday. Dance every day. You get to dance another day. Use it.

Whose Right To Free Speech Are We Talking About Here?

In some ways, I believe that these tech giants are more powerful than Government officials. This is a fascinating take on Donald Trump's lawsuit against Big Tech, which banned him from their platforms because they thought the First Amendment didn't apply to them. After all, the Bill of Rights protects us from "governmental action", right? And, private corporations shouldn't have to be constrained by the First Amendment, right? After all, they have their own right of free speech. However, in an Internet age, when all communication runs through the Internet, should a group of private individuals and corporations be allowed to control the flow of thought and information? Shouldn't the right to free speech belong to all of us? Should we examine the connection between government and large corporations, who may be in collusion with each other? When does private action become tantamount to public action? Free speech depends upon everyone being on a level playing field. This article, by a former head of the ACLU, thinks the lawsuit by Trump raises some important Constitutional questions. Perhaps someone like Trump can be described as obscene, gross, and legitimately disgusting. What happens when the shoe is on the other foot? Isn't sauce for the goose also sauce for the gander? Should the Supreme Court expand the definition of government action? What do you think?

Perhaps before marketing in the U.S., this company might consider classes in English grammar. It hurts my brain to look at this.

Will your today be "just another day", or will you learn the life truth that every day is a magical, surprising, shocking, last day?

It was just another day.

The sun was shining.

The grass was green.

There was a Springtime feeling in the air.

It felt like forever,

and the clouds looked like angels

smiling on him.

The breeze smelled like a bouquet

of flowers freshly cut,

and his clothes fit just right.

The car was full of gas

and didn’t need to be washed.

He had money in the bank.

The bills were paid.

Everyone he met was smiling

and they greeted him like a brother.

She sat next to him in the car,

and held his hand

while they went through the car wash

and he showed her how the system worked.

Their next stop was the record store,

where he dug into the bargain bins

while she spent her time looking through the classic rock.

All was right with the world.

They drove home thinking they would live forever

in a happy dream life

filled with car washes

and record stores

and holding hands.

It’s a hard thing to learn

that nothing is forever.

I shot this photo at Zoo Tampa, some years ago, on a visit with SWMBO. I was struck then by the thousand yard stare of an animal that is housed in a prison of sorts; but, who still lives each day, and breathes the air, and eats and sleeps. Life is precious, no matter the circumstance. Being conscious of our inevitable death is not morbid; it is life affirming.
