The Menace of Moralism. Execupundit points today to this article in the City Journal. Its premise, that moralism and the arrogance of those who wish to control speech and actions is being taken to excess, is highlighted in this telling quote: "They aim to transform our society so as to bring it ever closer to what they regard as the ideal of equality, on which, they claim, the well-being of humanity depends. They arrogate to themselves the moral authority to pontificate about what we should, or should not, say or do. And those who do not follow their moral imperatives they condemn as sexist, racist, and white-male-heterosexual oppressors of women, blacks, and homosexuals." No rational person can follow this trend without being aware of the possible consequences. Those who believe in the free exchange of ideas must stand up if the hypocrisy of these arguments are to be stopped. What ever happened to the liberal truth that a person's worth should have nothing to do with the color of their skin, or their sex? In this bonfire of vanities, everyone is pigeonholed into good or bad, based upon whether they are white or black, male or female, and other external qualities. The true oppressors are those who think that they are morally superior, and try to cancel anyone who doesn't believe what they do.
