Why Marketing To Seniors Is So Terrible. Why do ads usually talk down to seniors? They are condescending, arrogant, demeaning, insulting, and offensive. This ad appeared in the Tampa Bay Times this morning, and assumes that seniors are stupid, technically ignorant, blind, and confused. As a 74 year old who knows more about technology and computing than anyone in the ad campaign that created this disgusting display of condescension, I object. The big problem is that these ads succeed; not because the seniors buy the products, but because the children of those seniors buy them. Our society is ageist in so many ways. Perhaps that is why we seem to have forgotten our history, and are doomed to repeat it. Wow, I guess I can be triggered by something after all.
