Smartphones And Teenagers. Execupundit asks a provocative question today. Would you prefer that your children eschew the latest tech, and fight against the tide of history? Do you want them to make decisions that value personal human contact over the marvels of smartphone technology? As gadget centered as I am, I think I am on the side of rational self control in this debate. I want our children to share in the undeniable benefits of technology; but, I also want them to keep their humanity, and their ability to be humans in harmony with nature and other humans. Isn't there a middle ground in anything, anymore? Our politics are fractured. Our use of the environment is unbalanced. Our ability to compromise and deal kindly with our fellow human beings is declining. Is this a choice that must be made? Is it an either-or, existential problem? Are we living in a zero sum universe? Or, is life more complicated than that?
