Why do we consider fear a weakness? We all have fear and anxiety, some more than others. In fact, a lack of fear can be a sign of a personality disorder. I have always freely admitted my fear in daily situations. Preparing for a trial. A problem with a client. The adversarial nature of the legal process. But, rather than feeling a failure because we feel fear, perhaps we should look at it as a challenge. Courage is just the ability to push through when we are afraid. I used to have a lot of fear and anxiety before a trial. When I summoned the courage to go forward anyway, the fear dissipated, and it was a great relief to find that, regardless of failure or success, I had conquered the fear for the moment. One of the most courageous fliers of all time, Eddie Rickenbacker, said it best. So, rather than fight with fear or anxiety, try pushing through anyway. Always remember that everyone else has fear and anxiety as well.
