Culturaloffering. In addition to being a required read for FutureLawyer, I have been honored to be on CulturalOffering's list of 25 blogs to read for several years now. His blog makes me think. Today, though, he hit a nerve with me, as I have been poked, prodded, and pressured for many years to eat a "healthy" diet, and to stop eating and drinking things that I enjoy. I know that moderation in all things is the key to good health and longevity. But, I have always been of the view that, whatever time I have, it is best spent enjoying life. That, for me, does not include measuring every tidbit or dram I put into my mouth with some other human's artificial health stick. Be aware that you don't spend your life worrying about death. It will come soon enough. Today, CulturalOffering has one of the best quotes I have seen in a long time about this subject. Memento Mori. You will die soon enough. Spend your time having fun.
“The health fanatics who have poisoned all our natural enjoyments ought, in my view, to be rounded up and locked together in a place where they can bore each other rigid with their futile nostrums for eternal life. The rest of us should live out our days in a chain of linked symposia, in which the catalyst is wine, the means conversation, the goal a serene acceptance of our lot and a determination not to outstay our welcome.”
Sir Roger Scruton
