All of us need to refresh our computer security skills from time to time. From mis-directed faxes to failing to vet discovery production carefully, lawyers' errors can be expensive. In the recent Alex Jones trial, his lawyers erroneously sent the entire contents of his phone's email and texts, which resulted in a devastation cross examination by the opponent. Lawyers, in particular, need to be thinking about security all the time. Replying to an email carries its own risks. First rule, set the default to reply only to the sender. Then, in order to reply to everyone in the chain, a specific choice must be made. Second rule, never send an email while angry or emotional. Don't use email as a place to vent your frustrations with clients, opponents, courts or anyone else. Be careful out there.
