Kurt Vonnegut Writes A Letter To Students At Xavier High School. Kurt Vonnegut was a great novelist. He was also an inspiration to a generation of American young people, including the FutureLawyer. I don't remember what prompted me to star writing poetry in High School. It was, of course, very amateurish stuff; but, I gained some satisfaction from putting my thoughts on paper. It really wasn't about an external benefit; although, it was nice when others seemed to appreciate it. One of the most important lessons I learned, and one which Vonnegut refers to in this story about his response to a group of High School students, was that the inner person needs to be fed, and to grow, for a life to be well lived. Practice whatever art interests you, without regard to success or fame. Make your soul grow.
