I have always maintained that, as we age, we either gain wisdom, or remain locked into perpetual slavery to the opinions of others. Stoicism teaches us that, since we are the authors of our lives, we shouldn't spend one minute concerned about the opinions of others as to how to live our lives. You might try to say "but, you have to have the good opinion of clients, courts, colleagues, and others to have a successful law practice", and I would agree; except that none of that is necessary to a satisfying life. No matte what others say, if you honestly try to live a life by your own light, it will never matter what others say. When I get up in the morning, the only person I care to amaze is myself. Sometimes, I miss the mark. But, always, that is the only goal. Now, get out there and amaze yourself.
