I admit it. I get nervous driving on highways in Florida, even though it is mostly flat. I get shaky just looking at a photo of this road around a mountain. I had a tire blowout on I-4, and considered myself fortunate to be able to pull over to the side of the road to get it changed out.

How time flies. As I approach my four year anniversary, I am reminded that, while we only have today, the todays are finite. While we are here, we must remind ourselves how fortunate we are to get another day.

If we were never sad,

could we ever be happy?

I saw some dead leaves on the front stoop,

that I have shared with a wife who is dead,

and which I now share with a wife who is alive.

Should I be sad,

or happy?

Some leaves die,

and others grow to take their place.

All of us will die.

Others will live.

Is that sad?

Is that happy?

I read about sad events in the news.

I read about death and dying.

I read about destruction and evil.

I read about kindness and strength.

I see good deeds in the world.

I see sad people.

I see happy people.

I see the joy in children’s faces.

I see the joy in lovers in the park.

I see the happiness of athletes

playing games.

Is that sad?

Is that happy?

Does sadness live in the world?

Could happiness exist without it?

I have a choice to be sad.

I have a choice to be happy.

How shall I choose?

What will I say to those who choose sadness?

Choose love.

Love will find a way.

I choose to be happy."

This guy lives on Bay Lake, 4 blocks from the house. The island in the middle of the lake (more like a pond) serves as a rookery for dozens of seabirds and Florida native birds. Sunset is a glorious time; but, I got this photo 10 years ago in the early morning. Life is full of beauty. You just have to look for it.

Only A Crazy Person Could Think That Americans, In The Land Of The Free, Would Allow Their Government To Spy On Them.

We spend our lives touting the USA as the freest country in the world. Our government would never spy on us for financial or political gain. And, it could never happen because we, as a people, would never tolerate it. It is a fantasy to think that every man, woman and child in our free country would allow cameras and microphones to surround us every minute of every day.
