I didn’t take you on a trip.
I didn’t hold you tightly
and say how much I need you.
I didn’t kiss you on the cheek.
I didn’t grow a tree in your name.
I didn’t spend the day pampering you.
I didn’t tell you how my world
has changed.
I didn’t tell you about my new love.
I didn’t describe the feelings that I have for her.
I didn’t want to spoil your day
with foolish sentiment.

I only wanted to tell you
I am happy.

I hope that you are happy
in heaven,
if such a thing exists.
I know now
that love isn’t made of
flowers
