How Often Should You Turn Off Your Phone? Other than a strong password, two factor authentication, Windows passwords, and other software tips, guess what the best way to keep your phone secure is? Turn it off. Restart it. Press the power button until it shuts down. Do it at least once a week. You might be surprised at the exploits that can be prevented if a hacker doesn't have 24 7 access to your phone on the Internet. I like to restart my phone every night before bed. The texts, emails and other notifications will pop up in the morning when you power it on. Sometimes, if you need a break, turn is off when you are out and about. Of course, I still get good vibrations from my Smartwatch, so I keep myself available for emergencies. But, if I have learned one thing in my 76 years on the planet, there aren't very many genuine emergencies.
