New Year. Blank Slate? New Clock?

As with other years, the end of one, and the beginning of another, is more than a way to keep score. It is a promise of change, of new beginnings. But, every day holds that same promise, doesn't it? Don't use the future as an excuse to delay living. Get busy living, or get busy dying.

The wall clock in the office

moved like a New Year’s Resolution.

It began its journey

with measured steps,

and the long thin arms

moved steadily around the fulcrum,

ticking and tocking

with a regular rhythm.

He moved into the last day of the year,

and let nature take its course.

As time passed,

the arms of the clock

slowed.

He felt an imperceptible movement

of gears,

grinding in a slow rhythm.

He resolved to let the time pass.

Whatever he did,

he would rely on the tardy clock

for an important task,

and time would have passed him by.

His New Year’s Resolution

was too slow

to follow him into the future.

He would need to make

a new one.

But, was a resolution the answer?

Should he instead,

in a burst of inspiration,

just go out and buy a new clock?

Elon Musk Does It Again....Now, All Phones Are Sat Phones.

Elon Musk Has Done it - Using Cell Phones To Make Calls Anywhere On Earth. It is becoming old news. Elon Musk, a man with a vision like no other, has created a worldwide sat phone network that uses normal, everyday cell phones ( at least, the newer ones). The future is bright for human communication, as normal cell phones can now use the Starlink satellite network to communicate anywhere in the world. Yes, no more dead spots because you are too far from a cell phone tower. Fewer dropped calls. Direct to Cell service will be rolling out over the year in 2025, and, as long as your phone is LTE capable (which is most phones made in the past few years), you will be able to access the service. No pricing yet; but, it will be pricier than normal service, but not prohibitive. Sat phones will become a thing of the past, and every human will have access to every other human, anywhere in the world. Thank you, Mr. Musk, for bringing your dreams into reality. Sign me up.

Sunday Meditation - If There Is A Heaven.

If this is Heaven,
where are the angels?
If this is Hell,
where is the Devil?
We see the work of angels and devils.
Why don’t we see them?
We see happiness and joy
and love and caring
and helpers and kindness.
Perhaps we only see the results
when it it time for us to join them
in heaven?
We see death and destruction
and hatred and evil.
Perhaps we will only see the Devil
when it is time to meet him?
I have no desire to meet the evildoer.
I only wish to have an angel
introduce me to Heaven’s Landlord.
I think I know how to make that happen.
But it will mean a life filled
with goodness and kindness
and laughter and caring.
I hope to see you there.

The FutureLawyer Was A Geek Growing Up. But, I Wasn't As Geek Cool As Harold Agnew.

I have always loved books, gadgets, computers, and learning stuff. I was considered a geek in High School, which wasn't "cool" at the time. However, as I grew older, Geek Cook became more acceptable. I never was, and never will be, as geek cool as Harold Agnew, seen here in a photo carrying around the Plutonium Core for the Fat Man Atom Bomb. There is geek coool, and then there is Harold Agnew. 

Don't Worry Baby...Everything Will Turn Out All Right.

Beach Boys. When I was in High School, I had to wear a striped shirt, tan slacks, and WeeJuns. Anything else would be uncool. And, after all these years, I still try to keep the attitude that, no matter what happens, everything will turn out all right. The Sixties...when music was music. Prove me wrong.

#PoetryFriday - Pain And Delight - Lifecycle.

 

As we approach another New Year, this is a shoutout to everyone in pain today. If you are having a wonderful holiday, that is great. But always remember that pain is a day away. Death is an inevitability. Enjoy good fortune while you have it. But never expect it to continue forever. If you are in pain today, always remember that it doesn't last forever. Always know that joy is where you seek it. This week can be a time to reflect on the cycles of life. Sometimes, they are a roller coaster. But, for every high there is a low. Maintain a joyful outlook, no matter where your cycle is today.

 

 

He caressed her alabaster skin,

attempting to wipe away the pain of her past.

He remembered his own pain.

It invaded the world of passion and love

and moved freely

inside the hearts of lovers.

Like a microbe

it travelled through the blood vessels

mingling with good cells and bad.

Her pain grew like a cancer,

uncontrollable and spreading everywhere.

Was his love the antidote?

Would it heal?

Would it bring a clean, fresh face in the morning?

He wanted to tell her

that tomorrow would bring freedom

from pain.

He wanted to tell her

that tomorrow would be a good day

to begin the rest of their lives.

He only kissed her

and wiped the tears away.

Round And Round And Round We Go, CTA Is Now A No.

Corporate Transparency Act Whiplash. After staying the injunction against CTA filing compliance, and FinCen extending the deadline to January 13th, the Fifth Circuit has stayed the injunction again, based upon the expedited appeal process. So, as of yesterday, the requirement to file a BOIA report with FinCen is off again. Lawyers and clients are getting dizzy, I know but it would be prudent to be ready to qualify on short notice if the appeal is upheld. If you have already filed, no worries. If not, you can still file voluntarily. My advice? Since the Fifth Circuit has already opined that the Government is likely to prevail on appeal, file the sucker and get it over with. It is an easy 10 minute process. Jeez.

#PoetryFriday - Magic.

I wrote this poem for my daughter, Nicole, many years ago, after watching her in the pool. We all want to spare our children the negative things that happen in all lives but that is a fool's errand. It is better to teach them that they are not responsible for fate, or for what other's do or don't do. That is the real magic. Love unconditionally.

"Daddy, I love you, let me splash you with my magic".

She said, frolicking in the pool,

Holding her rubber duckie,

which doubled as a pool thermometer.

In her eyes, it was a magic wand,

capable of great feats.

All things were possible.

How could I tell her

that life would disappoint her,

and that,

in between the ecstasy and the pain,

the mementos of a happy childhood

would dissolve into days of sadness and hurt?

Or was that true after all?

I looked into the eyes of a true lover,

whose purity was unsullied by the failures of the world.

I wondered if her true love would wash over me,

and transform the world into a magical place,

where unconditional caring was commonplace.

I turned away, so that she would not see the tears,

hoping that her time of magic would last long,

and that some of her magic would always be there

to splash over me.
