What Is Your Favorite Car?

This is my 27 year old Mitsubishi 3000GT. It isn't the rarest of the species, which is the VR-4; but, it is in pristine stock condition. I have probably spent more on it than its fair market value; but, we don't spend money on pretty things in order to make money. Some beautiful things must be kept that way for the soul. Each of us has a favorite car; at least, gearheads do. Most of us don't have enough money to buy our favorite car. So the 3000GT, which was way ahead of its time in the Nineties, when Japan was building high performance sports cars, was ideal for me, as I didn't have a lot of money. What is your favorite car, and do you own it?

My Tow Car Is Twenty Years Old. No, I Do Not Need An Extended Warranty.

I, too am getting the annoying calls about buying an extend car warranty. I sometimes wish they were video calls, so that I could show them why a warranty is not required for a 20 year old car that has 160,000 miles on the engine. However, I do gain some satisfaction from the fact that they are wasting time and money calling me. Jeez.

You Will Be Able To Travel To Europe This Summer...But Will You Want To?

Vaccinated U.S. Tourists Will Be Allowed To Travel To Europe This Summer./ I had to cancel a couple of long planned trips to Europe and the West Coast when the Pandemic hit last year. I ate some part of the expenses because I reserved through third parties, like Booking.com (be careful with them); but, on the whole, I saved a lot of money on short term visits. Now, even though we are fully vaccinated, I have chosen to follow many U.S. citizens, and will be traveling Florida, and later America, in an RV. It really is like taking a hotel room with you, and, even at $3 to $4 a gallon, and 12 miles per gallon, it is way cheaper than hotels. You are required to take your time, and you see a lot more than from the window of an airplane. In fact, in addition to being safer, I can drive anywhere in Florida in under 5 hours, and I used to spend that much time on a 50 minute flight. And, nobody will be measuring my toiletries. Modern technology means that we can also travel these days with our entertainment, work, and anything we want on mobile computers and tech. I remember a slogan from years back: "See America First". I think I will try that.

Android Auto - Drive Your Car And Stay Alive

Android Auto. Driving a car and checking messages on your Smartphone are not the safest way to spend your day. Distracted driving is a leading cause of auto accidents, and the increasing power and utility of Smartphones has exacerbated the problem. Google and other tech companies recognize this, and Google's answer is a limited, large font version of the essential apps that can be connected to many dashboard addons. I installed a Sony XAVAX3000 system in my 3000GT, and connect it via USB cable to my Smartphone. Android Auto appears on the Sony screen, and, with voice control, I don't have to remove my hands from the wheel. OK Google, call Diane.

25 Years Old And Still Beautiful

My 3000 GT got new headlights this weekend, a shiny black paint job, and HALO ring headlights. I am moving one small improvement after another to a showroom classic. Thanks to my best friend, Chris Franklin, for his skill and effort.

Google Maps Just Introduced a Controversial New Feature That Drivers Will Probably Love (But Police Will Utterly Hate) | Inc.com. Are any of you old enough to remember CB radios in cars? I had one years ago, and was intrigued by the lingo, and the ability to listen to long haul truckers bantering back and forth. Channel 19, the most used channel, was often used to alert other truckers and motorists of speed traps. In the Seventies, a slang developed around CB, and it was very popular. CB is still used; but, Google Maps will now give, in addition to real time traffic information, driver reports of speed traps, and other related updates. Be careful, Good Buddy. There's a Bear in the woods.

Google Shuts Down Trips App?

[Update: Dead, RIP] Google is preparing to shut down the Trips app [APK Teardown]. Google has shut down the Trips app. What app, you say? I never heard of that app, you say? Exactly. A vast majority of us use Google Maps, and the fact that Maps has been getting more and more functionality should have been a clue. Most of us don't even use the features in the Maps app. We want to get from Point A to Point B, and we don't do a lot of trip planning these days. Remember the AAA Triptiks? I used to be the designated Triptiks reader on long drives, and, even then, I was more interested in the time remaining to destination. Anybody use Trips?
