I knew there was a reason I started this blog many years ago. When I arrived at the Oculus Exhibit this morning, I was escorted immediately to the Crescent Bay demo room. This little video from Cnet will give you a flavor of what it is like. This thing is lighter and better that the Gear VR, and you can really walk around in a virtual space. In one of the demos, a full size TRex comes towards you and walks right over you. Thanks for the walk through, Alex. I can't wait to develop legal applications for this game changing technology. How about virtual trials and hearings? How about scene recreation using VR? So many possiblities. So little time.

Razer Hopes To Level The VR Playing Field

Razer is launching an open-source VR headset this year. While Oculus has the big early lead in consumer VR, Razer is introducing, later this year, a consumer VR headset that will be open source, and wants to be the Android of the VR market. It showed a working headset this year, it isn't Oculus. It isn't Gear VR. But, it is a step forward. I will try to get more information today.

You Cant Fight Ebola In The Dark | Indiegogo. Sometimes, opportunity springs up in odd places. WakaWaka has a solar powered phone charger that is being given to children in Africa for lights, and all sorts of USB powered devices. With a gift of $100 I received one of them, and the company donates two to families in the developing world. Just leave them in the sun to recharge in around 6 hours. Great marketing concept, and better way to help those who don't have electric power. We have so much. We need to share.

Wearable Speakers Suitable For Florida

As an example of the small companies with innovative products, here is an Erie, Pennsylvania manufacturer who makes bluetooth earsets that fit inside of a wearable headband. They say they can put them anywhere, and they are an example of wearable computing at its best. I bought one for SWMBO because she likes to fall asleep listening to her tunes. Light and wireless, it is a perfect solution. Don't think I can wear them in the courtroom however. You can find them at RunPhones.

Serendipity In The Desert

Maybe God is trying to tell me something. I walked into the Exhibit Hall at the Sands Expo this morning, and walked right into the Fitness and Exercise Exhibits. Say what? Not my cup of tea. However, I made some discoveries of some interesting wireless and solar tech that I will be posting about. I love finding small companies with little ad budgets who come to CES with innovative products. Eye opening.

Practicing Law In Las Vegas

 I know that some lawyers think that my fascination with technology and its enhancement of the practice of law is crazy. However, while I am here at CES in Las Vegas, perhaps a lesson can be learned. I am waiting for the Exhibits to open to the Press at 10 A.M. here at the Las Vegas Convention Center. I am having a cup of coffeel and, a minute ago, my SmartWatch vibrated. I glanced down and saw a Tampa phone number. I took the call on my LG necklace bluetooth headset and it was a clerk at a law firm who had my invoice in hand, and couldn't find the file on her computer. While talking to her, I brought up a PDF of a pleading in the case, and then accessed the file at the Clerk's office. I brought up a copy of the Complaint that had been filed by her firm, and the local firm case number was at the bottom. Eureka. I gave her the number and I should have a check when I get back. There is no fear and loathing in MY Las Vegas. Only efficiency and the use of technology to practice law anywhere. Now, let's get to the Exhibits.

Fire Alarm? Really?

Excalibur - Las Vegas Food Court | Starbucks Coffee Company. Well, that was an interesting beginning to the day. I am sitting in the Starbucks in the Excalibur Food Court on the Casino perimeter and a piercing alarm begins ringing. A recorded feminine voice says Remain Calm. Say what? It goes on for 15 minutes. The interesting thing is that no one even looked up. I guess what happens in Vegas not only stays in Vegas, but is ignored by everyone in Vegas.

4000 Reasons To Want A New TV In 2015

What mattered on Press Day at CES 2015 - CNET. The biggest announcements on Press Day at CES 2015 were from LG, Samsung and Sony, with all touting the advancements in 4K TV technology. Each has a different approach; but, it is clear that this is the year that 4000 pixel wide displays will become more affordable. LG probably stole the show, with a 4K 77 inch curved display TV. All the new TVs are smart TVs, with LG going with Web OS 2.0 and Samsung putting Tizen in its new TVs. CNET has the updates in depth at the link.
