Wearable Cameras Are Here

Narrative Unveils the Clip 2 Wearable Camera. In case you thought that you were anonymous in a crowd, better look around. Is that a button on your shirt? I can envision disguising these things with designs, or hiding them in pockets with a little hole for the lens. They are WiFi and Bluetooth capable, which means that you will be on thousands of hidden cameras every day, and your societal interactions will be web ready instantly. This can be a good thing, as it would certainly provide real time evidence in crime events, and could even give a great view of sporting events, as an alternative to the God view we get on TV. So much of today's tech has promise for the future. I need to figure out how one of these will enhance the practice of law.

CES, Is It Too Big For Vegas?

CES, the World's Largest Trade Show, Is Too Big for Vegas - Bloomberg. I have a recurring dream (or is it a nightmare?). I am walking for what seems like forever, and at every turn there is another cool gadget, or tech concept, or product that someone wants me to use and buy. I want to try them all; but, know that I can't. I keep hurrying and going faster, but it never ends. Then, I wake up and find out the dream is real. If there is a Heaven for Futurelawyer, Horatio, it is in Las Vegas this week. With the crowds of tech heads, however, it will also be a little piece of Hell. I am going to take it as it comes, and not make interview appointments at all. I will see where my feet take me, and I will tell you what I find. At least I have SWMBO along to wake me up when I'm dreaming.

Four Trends Driving Tech In 2015

Four big trends that will be everywhere at the biggest tech trade show | VentureBeat | Gadgets | by Dean Takahashi. As I walk the floors at CES this year, I will be looking for tools for the practicing lawyer, spotting trends in consumer electronics, and gadgets, gadgets, gadgets; not necessarily in that order. In between marvelling at the distance traveled since I went to my first CES in 1984 in Atlanta, I will be trying to divine the next big thing that will enhance the practice of law. I remember being wowed by a 10 megabyte hard drive that could be added to my Toshiba luggable dual floppy computer back in the Eighties. It cost $900. These days computers carry Terabytes of data around, and my hand held smartphone has 32 Gigabytes of data on a microchip. With all the talk of connected devices and home appliances, however, the real news will be product that enhance and amplify the human experience. 

What Will China Bring To CES 2015?

Why Chinese tech giants could surprise you at CES 2015. I am very interested in checking out ASUS and Lenovo at CES. They are innovative companies and always seem to push the tech envelope. I am particularly interested in products for mobile professionals. I have been using the Sony Tap 11 tablet, and I want to see what hybrids the Chinese have available. ASUS has always been on the leading edge of the hybrid market, and, since I believe that the future of mobile computing lies in that market, I will be reporting on developments in it. It should be an exciting week. I am looking forward to wandering the Exhibit Halls for you. No plan. Just serendipity.

The Future...Wearable, Autonomous and Always Connected

Here's what to expect from CES 2015 | The Verge. I agree with the conclusions in this Verge article about what to expect next week at CES 2015. In the future, all of us, (yes, including you Mr. or Ms. Lawyer) will wear computing devices that are always connected, and will transmit and receive data from devices in just about everything or everyone with which we come within 30 feet. Our enhanced awareness will be second nature, and we won't even blink an eye when one of our devices makes us aware of something that makes us more productive, or more interconnected. It won't even feel geeky to wear a SmartWatch, or a SmartShirt, or SmartShoes, or SmartRings, or to receive notifications by sight or sound or vibration. The Internet of Things will be the Internet of Everyone, and, if you aren't connected, you will be odd man (or woman) out. Geek on.
