10 best travel gadgets from CES 2016 - Washington Times. Have a spare $250,000? Need to commute above the traffic? Can you get where you need to be on the 23 minute charge? This single user drone will get you there in style. Of course, my first question is where is the control person, and what happens when you run out of power? In any event, I don't have to worry about it. It is highly unlikely that I will have a spare quarter million dollars lying around anytime soon.

Fossil Q54 Pilot - Not A SmartWatch, But A Smarter Watch

Fossil adds another watch to its growing line of wearables | The Verge. Traditional watchmakers have seen the handwriting on the wall, and it says "Smartwatches are the future". But, many are just dipping their toes into the pool, and adding some computer functions to traditional analog watches. The new Fossil watch uses an analog watch case and strap, and doesn't have a screen for reading messages. It is an alert device; but, you still have to use the phone for most functions. Call it, and its competitors, a smarter than traditional analog watch. Will these barely smart devices sell? Only time will tell. Sooner or later, traditional watchmakers will have to jump into the pool, feet first. For now, they are being dragged, kicking and screaming, into the future.

Stabilo Digipen Makes Your BallPoint Pen Obsolete

Stabilo Digipen makes handwritten notes digital - Liliputing. Announced this week at CES 2016, this little pen connects to your computer via Bluetooth; and, to the computer, it acts like a keyboard. Unlike previous digital pens, you can write on any paper you want, and you don't need guide rails or  special tablet. The pen converts your scribbling to digital output that can be saved to the computer. Very cool, and, hopefully, a real product this coming year. Don't throw away the Mont Blanc yet; but, prepare to put it away forever.

Samsung Gear 360 - Make Your Own Virtual Reality

Samsung may soon launch a VR camera called Gear 360 | TalkAndroid.com. I have been playing with the new Gear VR glasses, and they are very cool. But, games and videos made by others pale in comparison to saving a virtual 360 degree view of my own travels. Consumer cameras are becoming available that will allow users to record their world in full virtual reality mode. I want one of these.

20 Cool Tech Innovations from CES 2016 Unveiled - AndroidTapp.In case you didn't believe me when I told you that current trends are towards more computer chips in everything we use and wear, check out this list of wearables and Internet of Things innovations. Some of them are downright creepy, like the SmartBelt that vibrates if you don't exercise enough, or if you gain weight (We have spouses for that, don't we?), and some are pretty functional, like the shoes that warm your feet (giving new meaning to hotfooting it). The Hunter WiFi connected fan is pretty cool (literally and figuratively), and can be controlled over WiFi from your phone. I suppose that these products are inevitable as computer chips become more commonplace, and Internet connections become ubiquitous. But, there is something Big Brother about all this, don't you think?

CES 2016 - Samsung Introduces The SmartSuit

The coolest wearables at CES 2016 are hidden in Samsung's booth - CNET.Think wearable computing is limited to SmartWatches? Think again. Samsung is showing off SmartSuits, Smart Jewelry, and other products designed to put computing power everywhere. The SmartSuit will allow the wearer to exchange business card information, unlock your phone automatically when you pull it from your pocket, and set modes for Office and Driving. How about a Golf Shirt that will tell you the weather where you are going to play? Or a Body Compass workout belt that will monitor heart rate, respiration and body fat levels? Okay, I won't be wearing a Body Compass; but, it is clear that the wearable revolution has just begun. Live Long and Prosper.

Adult Scooter For The Last Mile

Zipping around town? Flip open your new foldable scooter - CNET. Expect to see a few of these at CES this year, as personal transportation enters the future. This isn't your kids' hoverboard, and is a $1,500 product that will go 17 miles on a 3 hour charge. From the car to the train for commuters, or for oldsters who need to get around shopping malls, this is the future of personal transportation.  I wouldn't go at the 50 mph top speed on one of these; but, it has a seat and looks to be the answer for getting around. Only negative is that it weighs 40 pounds, so you might need a tow dolly.

CES 2016 Las Vegas - January 6-9 - CNET. With the magic of the Internet, you don't have to travel to Las Vegas to find out what is new and current in consumer tech. While I am in New Orleans, the show goes on, and you can follow at CNet's excellent CES page. The trend towards mobile tech is clear, and the trend towards computing functions in everything (the Internet of Things) is clear. The ForceBand permits control of objects with a wave of the hand, and you can expect more products to follow that trend.
