What Is Gallium Nitride (GaN), And Why Should You Care?

GaN Chargers. In the past several years, you have probably seen more ads for battery powered device chargers that claim they are the smallest, lightest and longest lasting batteries. In fact, the new Gallium Nitride chargers produce less heat. Less heat means components can be closer together, so a charger can be smaller than ever before—while maintaining all the power capabilities and safety standards. Notebook computers require 45 Watts or more of power to charge quickly. GaN tiny chargers that produce 65 Watts are available for less than $50, and some have extra USB-A and USB-C ports since there is always power to spare with these new chargers. I bought several to keep in the office, house, and RV. Just plug in the computer wherever I happen to be. Don't carry around bulky chargers anymore. Trust the science.

it is so easy to say "Follow the Science", isn't it? But, who knows what the Science is, at any given moment? Maybe we all need to make some independent judgments, informed by our own particular situations, and with an understanding of our own place in the cosmos. Or not.

If You Need A Mood Altering Drug, Caffeine Is The Best Choice.

5-healthy-reasons-to-drink-coffee. We all experience the need, on occasion, to alter our mood. As a senior, I have chosen, for many years, to use coffee, which has the drug, caffeine, and which has the pleasant effect of increasing alertness, and serving as an energy boost. In fact, I drink it all day long, and have developed a tolerance for it, such that I can drink a cup late in the day, and still sleep soundly. I seldom drink alcohol, with an occasional single malt scotch, several times a year, being the extent of my use of that drug. The negative health effects of too much alcohol have informed my limited use of it, and I have never liked the effects of it anyway. So, if coffee is the choice I have made, I decided to do some research into the long term effects on my body. Of course, at my advanced age, it is too late to make any life changing habit changes; but, I wanted to know anyway. I am happy to report that the science says that caffeine is health enhancing, in several ways. Coffee has been proven to reduce the risk of cancer, reduce the risk of stroke, and help to lower the blood sugar, reducing the risk of Type 2 Diabetes. It also has a beneficial effect on depression, and can reduce the risk of dementia, progressing into Alzheimer's disease. My biggest fear, in my declining years, is the loss of mental capacity, and studies have shown that caffeine blocks inflammation of the adenosine receptors in the brain. The adenosine receptors can start a chain reaction to begin a cognitive decline. So, forgive me for this not intended to be humorous post; but, I am going to get another cup of coffee.

Tonight Will Be A Celebration For This Concordant Married Couple.

Execupundit points today to this article that discusses a study in which more positive relationships among older married couples exist when they are concordant, which, in English, means one of you drinks alcohol, and the other doesn't. I have never been much of a fan, even though I have an occasional single malt beverage. I am the designated driver for a group of women who drink alcohol. Jacquelyn's preference was Pinot Grigio, while Diane prefers Vodka. So, I have lived with a Concordant spouse for many years. My New Year's wish for all my friends is that they find a concordant relationship in the New Year. Life is very pleasant with mine. Love you much, Ms. Concordant.

Coffee Is My Drug Of Choice, And It Is The Reason I Don't Have Dementia.

Drinking Coffee May Reduce The Risk Of Alzheimers Disease. First, the studies showed that caffeine consumption reduced heart disease and had anti cancer properties. We already knew that coffee increased alertness and awareness. Now, studies show that coffee reduces the accumulation of beta-amyloid proteins, which clump up and clog the brain pathways in Alzheimers patients. Forget an apple a day. Drink 4 to 6 cups of coffee, and keep your wits. This is not a joke, he said between sips of his favorite beverage.

Coffee And Tea Linked To Low Risk Of Stroke And Dementia. How did he do it? The FutureLawyer is 74 today, and friends and enemies are all wondering. That guy should have been dead years ago, they say. He is overweight, under exercised, and generally a slob. But, friends, I have two special weapons in my arsenal, that have clearly saved the day. First, I have the genes of my Italian and Italian-American ancestors. Granted, I had nothing to do with that benefit; but, hey, I will take it where I can get it. But, the second, and most important benefit, is that I drink 6 cups of coffee a day. Now, scientific studies are proving the benefits of the bean. Yes, it is true that I use the drug just to function; but, I am blessed that it has other benefits. We are all dying. The goal is to do it as slowly as possible. I am ready to die, every day. But, if I don't, I count myself lucky.

The New I Robot. Michael Wade has an interesting take on the advance of robot technology. It ties in to my post about the new virtual reality technology that involves the use of wearable gloves and headgear to imitate the real world. In fact, we need not fear the coming age of super robots that will be stronger, faster and smarter than we are. We need to fear the humans who control them, and the humans who, with enhanced tech, become them. Enhanced humans are going to be dangerous. We will first use them in wars. After that, bad people will use them to do bad things to innocents. Sometime, I am glad that I am old.

If Masks Are Essential To Public Health???

World Leaders Demonstrating The Necessity Of Masking. I hate wearing masks. However, I follow laws and regulations. I do not, however, give up my right of free speech. If masks are so essential, why did we have to wear them into the restaurant, only to remove them at the table? If vaccines are so necessary, why do we have to wear masks after getting them?
